While LASIK and similar surgeries have become some of the most popular options for vision enhancement around, there are many other treatments out there that may be better suited to your needs. One such option that has proven helpful to many of our patients over the years is the use of implantable contact lenses (ICLs).

We’d like to take a few moments right now to consider implantable contact lenses (ICLs) and how they can be of great benefit to you and your needs, with special focus on the ways that ICLs can be paid for.

About Implantable Contact Lenses (ICLs)

Implantable contact lenses (ICLs) are similar to contact lenses but rather than being removable, they are surgically placed into the eyes in front of the natural lens in order to enhance the patient’s vision.

ICLs should not be confused with intraocular lenses (IOLs), which are used to replace the lens of the eye itself. (IOLs are commonly used in cataract surgery as a lens replacement option.)

The Average Cost of Implantable Contact Lenses (ICLs)

The average cost of implantable contact lenses (ICLs) can actually vary a fair amount based a number of factors. Since each patient is different and he or she will have different needs to be met, we do not feel that providing a national average or even a general price range for ICLs will be able to communicate the whole story of the procedure and what the process entails.

That said, it’s a good idea for those interested in ICLs to meet with an eye care specialist so that they can get a personalized price quote.

Factors That Determine the Cost of Implantable Contact Lenses (ICLs)

Some of the factors that affect the cost of getting implantable contact lenses (ICLs) include the following:

  • The location of the eye care center
  • The training of the eye surgeons
  • The complexity of the patient’s case
  • The type of ICLs used
  • Promotions that are unique to individual practices

Insurance Coverage and Implantable Contact Lenses (ICLs)

The vast majority of medical insurance providers do not offer any coverage for implantable contact lenses (ICLs). Generally the ICL treatment is considered elective rather than medically necessary. You may want to check with your own insurance company, however, as there may be some very specific situations in which there would be insurance coverage for ICLs. Keep in mind that these circumstances would be very unique, however.

Financing Options for Implantable Contact Lenses (ICLs)

As the cost of implantable contact lenses (ICLs) can be prohibitive for some individuals and households, there are financing options out there to consider that can put treatment within reach. These monthly payment plans are similar in many ways to credit cards and traditional loans, with reasonable interest rates applying to the total cost of treatment. These options can be discussed in full during your visit.
