Age is an important consideration in refractive surgery. FDA guidelines recommend at least 18 years of age, however age is less critical than stability of prescription. We prefer that your prescription has been stable for at least 1 year prior to surgery. There is no upper limit for age, however as we get older (after 60) other procedures, such as cataract surgery, often accomplish the goal of LASIK and are covered by insurance. The best way to find out if you are a candidate is to contact us for a free LASIK screening. If you are 18 or younger, it would be helpful to review past medical records from recent eye exams as well.
